Students living in the residential halls can expect to see a new face around the dorms.
The Housing and Residential Education department has created a new position to assist under-represented student groups and encourage diversity in the resident halls. Wazir Jefferson will be serving as the coordinator of diversity education within HRE.
Jefferson said he hopes to enrich the educational experiences of the entire U campus and community by removing barriers that have been traditionally encountered by culturally diverse students and provide a safe space for all students to feel comfortable.
“I will make every attempt to support the academic, professional and personal success of all of our students,” Jefferson said in a written statement. “My main goal is to support and encourage students who are willing to share and explore interactions among individuals with varying traditions, cultures, orientation, religious beliefs, economic backgrounds and racial origins.”
In addition, Jefferson will collaborate with other diversity programs on campus, including the Center for Ethnic Student Affairs, the Ethnic Student Program, the Woman’s Resource Center and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center.
Jefferson can be reached at [email protected] or 587-2907.
