In celebration of the Union’s 50th anniversary, the Union Programming Council will bring a little bit of the past to tonight’s Crimson Nights.
Its “Vintage” theme will aim to give students a taste of the oldies by serving old-fashioned food and milkshakes. Also, students will be able to dance to both classic and modern tunes on its dance floor, which will be DJed by U.92.
Tanya Tapp, associate director of development for UPC, said students should come prepared to roll by, skating in the classic skating rink, which will be set up for students all throughout the Union.
“It’s going to be huge,” Tapp said.
Free skates will also be available.
The band Mid-life Crisis will also perform and, according to Tapp, “should be very funny because they’re all middle-aged guys.”
Julie Tran, UPC director, said students should come to participate in U traditions. A New Year’s Eve countdown will take place every hour-part of the Pure Crimson tradition.
“And we will not discourage kissing,” Tran said.
Other activities will include an Elvis- impersonating contest, a showing of the movie “Grease” and for crafty students, tables will be set up to “paint their own record.”
An Xbox/Atari tournament will be available for more competitive participants. Prizes like iPods will also be given out during the event.
“Vintage” Crimson Nights will take place in the Union tonight, going from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. UPC members encourage students to dress up ’50s-style.
The event is free for U students with a UCard and $2 for those without.
