Editor:
I definitely was aware of the level of racism and hate/ignorance circulating not only the U campus, but The Daily Utah Chronicle.
To Tiara C. Fuller — this writer is a very ignorant, uncultured and “threatened” “white girl” who has no depth of understanding the purpose of affirmative action. Sadly, “white” people such as Fuller think that benefits of a group based on culture or ethnicity threaten or take away the benefits of another culture or ethnicity (“Clubs on campus are racist and devisive,” Aug. 1). This simply is not the case.
It is obvious that Fuller has not grown up understanding pertinent issues that minorities face as a whole. Instead she continues to be “afraid” of others’ benefits because she thinks this will take her own benefits away.
Affirmative action was created because the people who started this country (…white…) expanded the United States, killing off millions of American Indians and enslaving African-Americans so white people could “prosper” in America. Read TRUE history and it will show you the truth. (Tiara is obviously ignorant of this fact and so is anyone else who forgets this.)
To The Daily Utah Chronicle…before your writers decide to “write” whatever they deem intelligent and enlightening, they need to “step up” and do their research on the matter instead of sharing their one-sided racist views. And now that minorities are finally starting to have somewhat of an equal chance (but far from it, especially here in Utah), people such as Fuller start getting scared.
Fuller says these “organizations…are racist, sexist and divisive and are not beneficial to society.” Sure, you’re right, Fuller. They’re not beneficial to your “white” society. So isn’t that why you’re saying it? Because they don’t directly benefit “you” or “your friends?” Have you ever had any minority friends? I highly doubt it. I’ve had tons of white, black and Mexican friends and it never really mattered. Everyone showed acceptance and love to everyone else. (But I doubt you even know what that’s like.)
Fuller, you are an ignorant little girl if you think everyone in this “society” has the same opportunities as “white” people. Next time you forget this because you live in a “little small world” and you have no connection to the “real world” which is way bigger than this little bubble of Utah that you live in, remember how this country was started: all minorities were shunned and/or enslaved by your white ancestors, and THAT is why they have a little thing called affirmative action.
Open a history book and learn something.
Oh, and by the way, if you think minorities are “stealing your chances” of success, I really would like you to reread your article. I would THINK that at this point, you are literate enough to write, spell, know how to use spell check AND know how to spell correctly. In simpler terms, you really COULD do a better job editing your article — “dn’t” and “doifferent” don’t mean a thing to me.
I’m a “minority” that belongs to a “club” and I don’t think spelling has anything to do with race, now does it? Ignorance is ignorance and so are your words.
