The Salt Lake Art Center’s new exhibit displays works from one of the 20th century’s most intirguiging artistic paradigms. Paintings from Tilo Baumgrtel, Tim Eitel, Martin Kobe, Neo Rauch, Christoph Ruckhberle, David Schnell and Matthias Weischer will bring the haunting mystique of the Leipzig school’s abstract take on realist figure painting to the land of Zion.

The Salt Lake Film Center kicks off this weekend’s Salt Lake American Muslim Festival with this acclaimed depiction of the birth of Islam. The film will be followed by a lecture from Dr. Alice Rothchild of Jewish Voice for Peace, whose book, Broken Promises, Broken Dreams, will be available.

The first day of the SLAM Festival will host a diverse array of entertainment, including performances from the Sol de Jalisco Mariachi Band, Ahiska Turks Cultural Dances, the music of Sister Maryam and Jose Bonilla, Native American Indian Performance, Baptist gospel singers and the Salt City Saints Jazz Band. Numerous vendors specializing in food, arts and culture will be on hand as well.
