The Vietnamese American Student Association recently awarded juniors Leilani Ho and Trang Nguyen $500 scholarships for their academic achievements and involvement in the Vietnamese community.
The purpose of the Vietnamese American Student Association Community Scholarship is to select a student who actively participates in his or her community — the Vietnamese community in particular — and “represents his or her heritage proudly,” Sue Tran, president of VASA, said in a written statement.
This is the second year VASA has awarded the scholarship, which is the first specifically designed for Vietnamese students in Utah.
The group holds events throughout the year to raise funds for the scholarship.
