I am glad to hear that the U is considering creating more scholarships to allow more students the opportunity to study abroad.
I am a U student currently studying abroad at Swansea University in Wales. From my experience abroad, I would highly encourage and recommend everyone who can to challenge themselves and go abroad. Studying abroad can be a huge decision with a lot of variables to consider, with the biggest determining factor — being able to afford going.
If it weren’t for a scholarship I was fortunate enough to receive last spring, there would have been no way I could afford to spend Fall Semester in the United Kingdom (especially with the current exchange rates). By instituting this new student fee, many more students will be able to benefit from experiencing higher education and the world from a different perspective and culture.
What this initiative is trying to do is provide students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity while improving the reputation of the U by sending its students throughout the world. I am in full favor of this measure, and I would strongly encourage every student to apply for these scholarships if it does indeed pass.
