June 8
Two Real Salt Lake supporters were kicked out of Rice-Eccles Stadium for protesting an exhibition match against the Chinese national team. Waving a Tibetan flag and a sign featuring the date “6-4” written in Chinese, representing the government’s shooting of Tiananmen Square protestors which occurred on June 4, 1989, the fans were forced to leave with 20 minutes left to play after a number of Chinese players left the field in disgust. The fans, members of RSL’s Rogue Cavalier Brigade fan club, claimed that their rights to free speech had been violated.
