The Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would conceal the names, personal addresses and phone numbers of animal researchers at state colleges and universities.
SB 113, sponsored by Sen. Greg Bell, R-Fruit Heights, would modify the Government Records Access and Management Act to classify personal information of researchers who conduct medical or scientific research on animals at institutions of higher education as protected documents.
The Senate passed the bill unanimously in a third-reading with no contention, moving it to a committee in the House of Representatives.
The bill was drafted in effort to prevent animal protestors from the organization Utah Primate Freedom “harassing” U researchers and demonstrating in front of their homes.
