Men’s tennis team falls to New Mexico, upsets San Diego State
The men’s tennis team started its six-game Mountain West Conference schedule by dropping a close match to New Mexico on Friday, but rebounded on Saturday to defeat San Diego State and improve to 1-1 in conference play.
Against New Mexico, the Utes were not able to win the close matches early on and found themselves in an early deficit. Although the Utes made a run in singles competition, the deficit created in the doubles competition was too much for the Utes to overcome and they were defeated 4-3.
The next day, the U upset San Diego State, which was riding an 18-match winning streak. The Utes were able to win two of the three doubles matches to clinch an early lead. In the following singles competition, the Utes continued to take care of business as Zach Ganger and Miron Mann earned wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively.
The Utes won four of the six singles matches as they cruised to a 5-2 victory.
Next up, they will face TCU, UNLV and BYU in Provo next week.

Utes begin outdoor season on the right track
The Utah track team began the outdoor track and field season with impressive performances at both the BYU Cougar Invitational and Stanford Invitational this weekend.
At the Stanford Invitational, Chelsea DiGrazia, Lauren Enderssen and Shayla Houlihan were the only representatives from the team, but all three set personal best marks in their respective events.
“We had a great day today,” head coach Kyle Kepler said. “I’m so pleased with our performance and am proud of how hard we competed.”
At the BYU Cougar Invitational, Josefin Berg finished second in shot put and third in the hammer throw.
Chelsea Shapard won the 400-meter hurdle while Ashley Patterson fished third in the 200-meter race.
“We still have some work to do to get our team in its best form, but we are making strides in the right direction,” Kepler said.
