A car can be more than just a car.
Alex Fullmer, a freshman in physics and mathematics, uses his car to get to school and as a locker to store his books and saxophone for the day.
But Fullmer’s car doesn’t get him between classes any faster, so he brings along his bike so he can be punctual.
“I think I have a good system going,” Fullmer said. “My drive takes between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on traffic and construction. The only problem is when cars almost hit me while I bike, but I just keep my eyes open.”
Fullmer estimated that he spends about $40 a week in gas, and another $132 for a U-Pass for parking. To cut costs, Fullmer said he sometimes carpools with his girlfriend, but other alternatives such as TRAX haven’t worked out for him.
“TRAX would be an option for me, but I just have too much stuff,” Fullmer said. “I need a place to keep it all.”
