This is in response to Phil Cannon’s cartoon in the Nov. 10 issue. Do any of you really know the true nature of those anti-bigamy laws passed in the 1800s? Most of them were actually designed to disenfranchise The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by denying members the right to vote and seizing church property, including the temples.
Has Proposition 8 done any of that to those who did not want it to pass? No, as it has not taken any property or denied anyone their privilege to vote, things the anti-bigamy laws did. So before you go comparing old dead laws with newly passed propositions, do your homework first.
