End of the 3rd Quarter
Glen Coffee seems to be hurt, because he hasn’t been back in the game since being hurt. Ingram is a talented tailback, but he lacks the punch that Coffee has. Utah is one quarter away from pulling off a huge upset in SEC country.
:57 3rd Quarter
Brice McCain has been called for two pass interference calls. He is where Alabama seems to be attacking at this point.
1:44 3rd Quarter
Even though the drive was unfruitful, it still wasted valuable time, nearly 4:21 off the clock. Utah doesn’t need to concern itself with a clock game yet, but every little bit off helps. It’s still going to come down to Utah being able to stop Alabama’s “Tidal Wave.’ Pun intended (I know Maddox). Alabama has yet to score a touchdown on a drive that started at it’s own 20-yard line.
2:29 3rd Quarter
Alabama players are falling down like flies. Brandon Fenney was hurt on the play, he was not chopped block. The catch, however is being reviewed. For the most part, it’s been a cleanly officiated game. The biggest thing about Utah’s drive is that it’s taking time off the clock in chunks. It wore itself out by taking fewer than two minute drives.
4:11 3rd Quarter
Chris Kamrani, the Assistant Sports Editor, has just announced that this is the perfect spot for Ludwig’s patent draw offense. Unfortunately for him, a jailbreak screen breaks Reed for a huge gain near the 50-yard line.
4:21 3rd Quarter
Utah has hit back and they have really seemed to settle down in this game. I wouldn’t say Alabama’s spirit is broken by any means, but Utah is holding strong.
5:02 3rd Quarter
Utah got a great third-down stop leaving Alabama with a fourth-and-2 play. It’s another long attempt for Tiffin. He missed another field goal. The pregame misses from 50 yards might have gotten in his head.
5:32 3rd Quarter
Glen Coffee is lying on the sideline hurt. Something is going on with his back.
6:34 3rd Quarter
That was a questionable pass interference call. Brice McCain looked to be there step for step. Maybe grabbed a jersey. Who knows? Replays looked like he was clean.
8:47 3rd Quarter
Paul Kruger probably missed his first sack opportunity as he let Wilson slip out. He still managed to reknock him off balance and Wilson was sacked anyway. Alabama is content with leaking Coffee and using Utah’s aggressiveness against them.
10:04 3rd Quarter
The attendance was just announced8212;71,872. Could be the largest crowd to see a Utah game live in team history.
10:04 3rd Quarter
Move over Michael Crabtree. David Reed just caught an amazing catch that looked like he might be short of a first down and broke free of Kareem Jackson’s tackle and took it all the way to the house. Alabama is missing a lot of tackles and trying to hit Utah’s receivers high. That was such a crucial drive that features some big third-down plays. Utah is battle tested this season and they seem to play with a lot of guts. That’s basically what the rest of the game is going to boil down to.
Utah 28, Alabama 17
10:12 3rd Quarter
Utah gets a delay of game penalty. That scoots them back five yards and leaves them with a long third-and-10.
10:56 3rd Quarter
Bradon Godfrey comes up with a clutch catch. Utah doesn’t seem interested at all in running the football. Johnson now has 224 yards passing on 17-for-27 passing.
11:34 3rd Quarter
Could be one of the most important drives of the game. Can Utah answer Alabama’s score? Freddie Brown has played so well this game. His second effort has been amazing. He now has seven catches for 54 yards. A bit surprising considering how many times he’s broken tackles.
11:41 3rd Quarter
Alabama scored the inevitable touchdown on a rollout pass to Glen Coffee. Alabama is down, but have certainly grabbed hold of the momentum. Utah has now given up 17 straight points and Alabama’s size and speed have taken over. Utah doesn’t look scared, more tired and getting worked over by a good opponent. They can’t sit back and play complacently now.
12:54 3rd Quarter
Wilson is attacking Sean Smith on Jones. Jones has 5 catches for 64 yards. If Utah can hold the Tide to a field goal, it would be monumental for the Utes. Doesn’t look like it’s going to happen as Utah’s secondary is now getting picked apart.
14:00 3rd Quarter
Alabama’s offense has yet to score a point this game, but have an excellent chance with a gift fumble. Coffee is a great running back to make that play.
14:46 3rd Quarter
Brian Johnson committed an unforced fumble when he went back to cock the football. Utah is now even on the turnover margin 1-1 barring the call stands up to replays which it should. You can understand his hands being sweaty, right?
14:54 3rd Quarter
Utah with its second best field position of the game with the ball at their own 45-yard line. They’ll get marched back with their third penalty of the game. Utah has to play as sharp in the second as they did in the first. They haven’t scored in more than 15 minutes now.
15:00 3rd Quarter
Utah punched Alabama in the mouth early, but seemed to run out of gas a bit toward the end of the first half. The extra long halftime should have given Utah a chance to get its feet under them as they are in for Alabama’s best shot for 30 minutes. Alabama is kicking from it’s own 15-yard line.
