The U’s Society of Women Engineers wants to expand the number of engineering students enrolled and is reaching out to Girl Scouts.
The society organized an engineering day for about 75 Girl Scouts at the Warnock Engineering Building on Thursday night to show off new technologies in the field and encourage them to major in engineering.
“The girls will get hands-on experience,” said Laura Butler, spokeswoman for the College of Engineering.
Activities will include learning about computer parts, building circuits and designing an artificial heart valve.
The group hopes the event will help to interest the girls in engineering as a possible career.
