In response to the attacks directed at the GO Party, I could see how some people would be offended by the ad run by the party. As a minority student, I hope that my peers would get past their biases and give the opportunity for the GO Party leaders to apologize. There is a difference between intentional and unintentional errors to hurt a group of students; and it is obvious after talking to the candidates and doing a little research that the ad was an unintentional error.
Saying that the GO Party promotes racial stereotypes and questioning their ability to run ASUU because of one ad blunder is being superficial. One of the important things for the GO Party is to help underrepresented student groups that “do a great job of enhancing the campus and provide great opportunities for U students.” This is important to me because I am an active member of the Hispanic Business Student Association, an underrepresented student group. The GO Party candidates have made time to attend HBSA meetings and have seen what HBSA does. Not one of the leaders from the other parties made time to go and sit through our meetings. The GO Party is committed to their platform and committed to be a voice for U students. I know that Pace (Johnson), Jeff (Sbaih) and Erica (Andersen) will be great and effective student leaders.
