In his opinion piece (“We must stop liberals silencing conservatives,” March 30), Drew Conrad declares that the problem “that most liberals run into is that they depend on emotion, science and (calling) anyone a bigot for their arguments. In contrast, conservatives depend on schools of thought known as “common sense’ and “logic’ to make their points.” In other words, Conrad believes that science is not logical and using it as a basis for argument is a problem. Let me repeat that, Conrad thinks science is not logical.
This may come as a shock to Conrad, and feudal serfs during the Dark Ages, but science is, by definition, logical. The essence of logic is drawing conclusions through mathematical and physical observation. However, it is decidedly illogical to reject those conclusions in favor of ancient books written by people with no historical perspective or understanding of science.
Conrad, I respect your freedom to believe in God, Allah or Hashem, as well as your choice to be liberal or conservative. But you do not have license to redefine “logic” and disgrace science in order to give creditability to your unfounded ideology.
