Young’s tie goes for 10K on eBay
A charity of U President Michael Young’s choice has been fiscally bloated by a mystery buyer.
Young posted one of his infamous crimson-colored bow ties on eBay and immediately, thanks to an apparent fan base, the bids started going up in size and quantity. The tie, which is a patented Dolce & Gabbana bow tie, had a select few bidders once the bids surpassed the $5,000 mark. Of the three final bidders, the winner “PRisNo1” took home the prize for cashing in on the bow tie. The other bidders, “JSor7” and “AnnieD1962,” were close, but couldn’t make a bid fast enough.
Young was shocked and honored by this.
“Wow, who woulda thought?” Young said. “I guess people really do love me.”
Sustain that, sir
The Daily Utah Chronicle has officially made the 2009-2010 school year the “year of sustainability.” The Chronicle conducted an extensive poll of 300 students who were attending an informal party at the home of Associated Students of the University of Utah vice president Jon Hayes. Other choices were “year of oppression” and “year of nuclear testing.”
“The overwhelming student support for this issue has shown how committed U students are to preserving the sustainability, recycleability and green-ness of campus,” said staff writer Herbie Jones, a freshman in modern dance who wrote and administered the survey. “This designation of the “year of sustainability’ is a great step forward for the U, Utah, America and Mother Earth.”
By filling out the survey, participants also agreed to have their student publications fee increased by $3 per semester. The revenue will go toward printing The Chronicle on extra-recycleable newspaper and paying the salary of an administrator who will oversee the purchase and storage of the new paper.
