I remember being told one time that there were secret tunnels all over downtown Salt Lake that the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and other VIPs have access to. I’ve never actually seen these tunnels but I’m positive that they exist. Those tunnels and some of the abandoned theatres featured in this issue are the exact type of places that urban exploration is made for.
I’ve heard stories firsthand and read tales on Web sites about people who find awesomely old, abandoned places, find a way in and take a look at what remains. I’ve never had the guts to do something like that, but it’s always in the back of my mind8212;especially when I drive past some of those abandoned warehouses on the west side of the city.
There are so many places that have been closed down and boarded up only to sit around empty for years (like the Zephyr Club). It would be fun8212;and a little bit scary8212;to see what’s inside of them now.
Sure, probably dangerous and a bad idea all around, but that’s what makes it fun. If winter ever actually ends, urban exploration could make for an entertaining summer break.
