I’m not going to lie. I had no idea what the word “kerfuffle” meant until I looked it up last week. The definition I found was this: “disturbance: a disorderly outburst or tumult.” Even after reading that, I’m still not convinced that it’s a real word.
That being said, next week is The Grand Kerfuffle on campus, with Girl Talk and Lupe Fiasco headlining the event. Sometimes the Associated Students of the University of Utah puts on a show and the band/performer it hires is a head-scratcher, but this is one instance where I think it hit it dead on.
I just wish the event had a different name. It’s unique, and the people on campus know what this means because it’s a yearly tradition8212;but trying to explain this show to anyone else is nearly impossible and always a little awkward.
“What the hell is a kerfuffle?”
That’s what happens. Every time. From there, it’s always more about the name than what the festival actually stands for and accomplishes. Don’t get me wrong8212;I’m a fan of the event, it’s something I look forward to and it’s a strong way to end the year.
I’m just glad I finally got around to learning what it meant.
