Marquis Wilson is preparing for his big day in court8212;hopefully he’s there.
Wilson, a dismissed Utah football player, is pleading not guilty to an assault charge, a class A misdemeanor, for allegedly beating up an acquaintance, Jonathan Williams.
Wilson did not appear at his deposition at Utah’s 3rd District Court on Tuesday morning, according to court documents. His judge, Michele Christiansen, ordered that if Wilson doesn’t appear for his pretrial or the jury trial, a warrant will be issued for his arrest.
It wouldn’t be the first one Wilson’s had. Shortly after he allegedly beat up a man in the Golden Trails strip bar last Christmas Eve, the Salt Lake City Police Department issued a warrant for his arrest, because he fled the scene before they arrived. It was a month before they found him.
His pretrial conference, in which the judge will determine whether there is enough evidence against Wilson to hear the case before a jury, has been scheduled for Oct. 19. If the prosecutors are successful in convincing Christiansen, Wilson’s jury trial will begin two days later.
The attorneys involved in the case could not be reached for comment.
