Eat your heart out, Picasso.
“There is a lot of artistic talent,” said Jennifer Bauman, director of the showcase.
The showcase provides a great opportunity for the students because the selections are seen by many, including some from the U’s administration who attend meetings in the Sterling Sill Center’s conference room, Bauman said.
Sarah May, an undergraduate student in the pre-art program, submitted several photographs for the showcase, six of which were selected and displayed in the conference room.
“I am honored to be considered for this,” May said. “They told me the dean of the college wants to buy one of my pieces. Hopefully this will be the start of many galleries to come.”
Pieces exhibited in the showcase were created by students studying not only art and photography, but also pre-med, psychology and medical engineering, among others.
Submissions were presented to a committee of eight members, made up of staff in the undergraduate studies department, who voted on the works that would be shown in this year’s showcase, Bauman said.
The event was the second of its kind, and there are plans to hold another during the spring semester, Bowman said.
