A Utah man pleaded guilty earlier this month to charges stemming from a series of campus gropings in 2011.
Gary Winston Fotheringham pleaded guilty on June 7 to three counts of attempted forcible sexual assault, a third-degree felony that carries up to five years in prison. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors lowered the charges from second-degree to third-degree felonies and dropped two misdemeanor voyeurism charges.
According to court documents, on Nov. 4, 2011, a complainant reported that Fotheringham was watching women change their clothes in the Marriott Dance Building locker room. Later that afternoon and evening, three additional women reported that Fotheringham had groped them — one outside of OSH, one by the Marriott Library and one in the parking lot by the Tanner Humanities Building.
Fotheringham said in court documents that he took “indecent liberties with another and with intent to gratify sexual desires.” His sentencing date is set for August 2.
