Students will once again take to the Union lawn this Friday for Redfest, an annual fall concert thrown by ASUU.
Adam Tuero, an ASUU office assistant and a senior in psychology, sees Redfest as “a chance to start every school year off right, no matter who is performing.”
Each year ASUU surveys to ask students about what genres of music they would like to hear. Normally the top three are alternative, country and hip-hop, said Aubri Tuero of the Campus Traditions Board and a junior in film. This year, Karmin is headlining a list of artists that includes Andy Grammer, Luna Lune and Bryce Vine. In the past, notable acts such as Fun., Flogging Molly, Tiger Army, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Mos Def have graced the stage.
The aim is to provide “great events that have meaningful points of connection for students,” said Brian Burton, programming advisor for ASUU, who graduated in 2004 in organizational communication.
Redfest has been going on for over 15 years. Students can get two tickets from the Union front desk for free. Redfest has sold out for the last four years, reaching its 8,000 person capacity each year.
Allie Vangeison, the concerts manager of the campus events board and a junior in pre-nursing, is “very excited” for the concert and feels that the Redfest is “really one of the events that brings the student body together.”
