Around 400 cheering football fans filled the Union Ballroom Saturday night for the first Game on the Green of the year.
Game on the Green shows away Ute football games on a giant blow-up screen. ASUU, the MUSS, Chartwells, Parent Association, the Campus Store, Union Programming Council and other organizations on campus worked to put on the event. According to security at the event, the number of fans in attendance exceeded the 300-person expectation.
Game on the Green is usually held on the Union lawn, but due to a high wind warning the screen company was unable to set up the screen, said senior class president Kendahl Melvin, a senior in political science who helped put the event together.
“[Game on the Green is] a way for Utah fans to come together and support our team either when they are away or when it’s a really packed sold-out game,” Melvin said.
Hot dogs were served and prizes were given away during commercials. During halftime, members of the MUSS got up on stage and led everyone in the cheer.
Some came to watch the game with other fans.
“I think it is important to have a place for us to experience the game as a school,” said Satin Tashnizi a student in political science and pre-medicine.
Others came because they did not have another way to watch the game.
“I don’t have a TV,” said Andrew Webb, a senior in French and marketing. “It’s nice to be able to watch the game.”
