Students handed out résumés and explored potential employers at the fall career fair Tuesday in the Union Ballroom.
The fair targeted upper-division students, graduating seniors and alumni. Employers in attendance were seeking interns and graduates in business, technology, engineering, humanities, science and social science. The fair also featured nonprofit employers in attendance.
“It was very interesting. I am a senior in social science area, and normally, it was pretty difficult to get information about internships or full time jobs,” said Joanna Marmol. “I know our career advisers send us various types of information about internships, but I wanted to get it in person, not from others. In this regard, today’s career fair was awesome.”
At the career fair, students are able to see various companies and receive opportunities to target and investigate fields outside campus related to their major. Through the fair, the students get the chance to talk with employers and question them.
They can also learn more about the workplace environment.
“We cannot get that kind of information through the companies’ websites or emails from the career advisers,” Marmol said.
“I think it is really efficient since we can get information of the companies coming to the career fair before it is held through the website,” said Tony Lee, a student in computer science. “I was thinking about applying for Goldman Sachs but lost a chance to go to a career fair before. But today, I got it, and I got to ask them a few things I was curious about.”

I Think Career Fairs are great for reaching out to students let them know of companies. However I hate to be the bearer of bad news many companies and industries are cutting back majorly because of the recent changes and Obamacare (for example only hiring interns with no full time positions available) Many students will be affected by this and it will making a job for my generation much harder to get. My mother took almost 5 or 6 months to get a job. We live in a Grim time.
