Ivan Sudakov, a U mathematician, received a 2013 Green Talents award for his work in research toward sustainability. Sudakov focuses on using mathematics to better understand ice and climate. He has traveled to the Arctic for his research and is one of 25 honorees who received the award from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Shigeki Watanabe, a Post Doctoral Fellow in biology at the U who has been working with professor Erik Jorgensen on the study of how neurotransmitter chemicals are repurposed after transmitting nerve signals, received the Nemko Prize from the Society for Neuroscience in recognition of his work as a budding scientist.
