The U has a new collaborative education program with Nankai University in Tianjin, China.
The program is part of a larger Asian initiative, with the Asian Center, the Confucius Institute and the new U campus launching in Songdo, Korea.
The collaborative education program 3+X will provide opportunities for Chinese students cross-enroll and receive a bachelor’s degree from Nankai and a master’s degree from the U in just five years.
Nankai is one of the top 10 universities in China, where the U holds summer intensive Chinese language program every summer.
“For U students, having international students allows them to hear different global perspectives on course topics,” said Janet Theiss, a professor in the College of Humanities.
The 3+X program allows eligible students from Nankai to come to the U after they have studied three years in Nankai. It streamlines graduate admissions for these students and provides them with a transitional year to work on their English and adapt to U.S. graduate school culture.
“The program is designed to build another stable academic partnership for the U in Asia, a region of significant global engagement for the U,” said Heidi Camp, assistant dean of the College of Humanities. “We benefit by expanding the academic offerings for our students, and increasing the number of international students studying here at the U, which enriches our campus and the academic experience for all our students.”
