The Union rang with laughter Tuesday night.
Josh Blue, award winning comedian and Paralympic soccer player, performed in the Union Ballroom. ASUU’s Campus Events Board organized the event, which was free to students.
“We wanted to find someone that speaks to many groups of people,” said Luan Truong, Campus Events board director and junior in physics.
Blue suffers from cerebral palsy, and Truong said the show raised awareness about his disease.
Monica Salas, a junior in health promotion and education and assistant manager of speakers, said the board brings in speakers from different areas, such as sports, music and comedy.
“We wanted to touch up on different genres,” Salas said.
Blue careened around the stage during his show, playing on his disability and unique life experiences to earn laughs. He told of his experiences playing Paralympic soccer, visiting his wife’s family in Japan and raising his children. Near the end of his show, Blue encouraged audience members to purchase merchandise, saying the proceeds would benefit people with disabilities.
Some students in the audience were already fans of Blue. Jessica Yescas, a senior in business, attended Blue’s previous performance “Keith and the Girl” and was excited to see him again.
For other students, this was their first time attending a Blue show. Andrew Mickelson, a freshman in civil engineering and Eve Olson, a freshman in Middle Eastern studies, went as a couple.
“It was such a fun night,” Olson said.
Mickelson also enjoyed the show.
“Josh Blue did a great job, despite poor showing,” Mickelson said.
The attendance did not go unnoticed by Blue. He commented on the size of the audience a few times during the show.
The audience was in constant laughter, and most guests in attendance stayed after the show to talk to Blue and purchase merchandise.
