Ultimate Utah Wedding is holding a couples’ contest to give away a wedding at Rice-Eccles Stadium valued at around $60,000.
According to the Ultimate Utah Wedding blog, “The Tower at Rice-Eccles, in conjunction with the states’ best wedding vendors are giving away a Utah themed wedding valued at approximately $60,000.”
In order to be eligible to compete, couples do not have to be students, faculty, staff or alumni of the U. Applicants need only be at least 18 years of age, a permanent legal resident of the U.S. and clear a background check administered by the U.
“The only stipulation is that you are a U of U fan,” said Annalisa Purser, a public relations representative for the event.
Eligible applicants then submit a two-minute video to show why they are most deserving of the wedding based on their connection to the U. Based on the video, the U will select three couples as finalists who then go through interviews and appear on Good Things Utah to garner votes from the public. The application deadline is Dec. 15.
The winning couple is announced on Jan. 14, 2014. Vendors will work with the winners to create a unique wedding that reflects the tastes of the couple while encompassing the U theme. In the end, the vendors will produce two options that the public is able to vote on through Good Things Utah and Facebook, as explained in the rules.
Tiffany Swenson, the marketing coordinator of Utah Ultimate Wedding, said the main purpose of the giveaway is to promote the Tower at Rice Eccles Stadium. The Tower is a rentable space that is used to hold receptions, meetings and other events.
Ultimate Utah Wedding coordinates with several vendors and the U to host the giveaway.
“We have over 20 vendors from all over Utah that give their time,” Swenson said. “We also need a great couple. We couldn’t do it without the fans.”

So will this be open to same-sex couples as well as opposite-sex couples? Wanting to know if this contest will be legal or not.
