After two consecutive losing seasons and a loss in the first round of the 2015 Pac-12 tournament, Anthony Levrets has been “relieved of his duties” as the head coach of the Utah women’s basketball team, according to Utah Athletics.

Dr. Chris Hill, athletic director for the U, made the announcement early Sunday afternoon.
“We appreciate the effort Coach Levrets put into our program, but we feel as though we need a change in direction,” said Hill. “Our women’s basketball program has achieved great success throughout its history and we are committed to its continued success.”
Levrets has been the head coach for five seasons and before this, served on staff as an assistant coach under Elaine Elliot. This year, the team was struck by several season-ending injuries and the Utes ended the year 9-21, only winning three conference games all season.
His best record was in the 2012-2013 season, when Utah was 23-14 and went on to the women’s NIT championship, where the Utes lost to Drexel.
After the position change, Levrets released this statement.
“It has been my extreme pleasure to serve the University of Utah women’s basketball program as an assistant coach and then head coach. It has been one of the best opportunities that I have had in my life. I wish the young women in the program nothing but the best in their journeys, not only in basketball but in life.”
The national search for Levrets’ replacement has begun.
