August starts and school begins. Students are busy finding places to live, preparing for classes and trying to decide if they really need to buy all of their textbooks. The calm of summer swiftly steals away and the hustle of school picks up. All the while, exciting new films are filling the theatres.
Here are five new movies to look out for this fall:
“Fantastic Four” — July 30
Four scientists trust in the work of a friend when they teleport to an alternate universe. However, when something goes unexpectedly wrong, the four find their physical forms may never be the same again. Having to accept their new selves, they must use their newfound powers to become the “Fantastic Four” and protect Earth from a highly dangerous enemy.
This reboot of the 2005 film features a smart, witty cast, including Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell, who are sure to lead the action while supplying a sly amount of humor. And the special effects should be great.
“Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” — Sept. 18
After escaping the Maze, Thomas and the other Gladers thought that they had reached the end of the game. However, they are now faced with new challenges and seemingly inescapable tests.
The second installment of “The Maze Runner” will be one to look out for, especially with Dylan O’Brien reprising his role as Thomas. This time it won’t be the Maze to get through; it’ll be the Scorch Trials.
“Bridge of Spies” — Oct. 16
Steven Spielberg directs another intense thriller starring Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks, premiering this fall. “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of an American insurance lawyer hired by the CIA to represent a Russian spy during the Cold War. This drama thriller brings hard action and swift decisions along with a little bit of history behind the story.
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” — Nov. 20
Katniss Everdeen volunteered to save her sister’s life, survived a game where you fight to the death twice and is ready to defeat the one true enemy: the Capitol. She must bury her emotions and become the Mockingjay in order to ignite the other rebels’ fire and rage. The wait is nearly over for the final installment of “The Hunger Games.” Unanswered questions will be revealed, relationships will be tested and a final victor will be confirmed.
Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence will resume her role as Katniss, along with the rest of the A-list acting crew: Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutchinson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks and many others in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.”
“Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens” — Dec. 18
It’s been 10 years since the last Star Wars episode and nearly 40 years since the beginning. George Lucas fans as well as sci-fi enthusiasts will be excited to know that “Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens” will be premiering in theaters this December.
The continuing saga enlists new faces, including Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie as well as bringing back some familiar faces in Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, reprising their roles as Han Solo and Princess Leia. Get ready for an action-packed adventure directed by “Star Trek” director, J.J. Abrams.
