There’s always so much going on in the news that it’s almost impossible to keep track of everything. That sensation is only heightened when pop culture is involved (because who needs the Wall Street Journal when you can just look at the People Snapchat story, right?). For those of you who couldn’t quite keep up, here’s what you missed in this week’s pop culture roundup.
Disclaimer: Quite frankly, everyone’s sick of hearing about the Kardashians, so I won’t include anything about them — except a quick plug for a Google Chrome extension called Kardashian Filter that blocks any mention of that family.
Miley Cyrus released her new album for free. The album, called “Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz” was released on Soundcloud. Cyrus brings her usual “quirkiness” in this album, by far her weirdest one yet. Just take the music video she debuted last week at the VMAs for her song “Dooo It!” which is featured on this album. It’s a strange few minutes of her dripping glitter all over her face, but downright invigorating to watch.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 6s/6s Plus. The new iPhone includes a screen that is sensitive to the amount of pressure applied when touched. It also is built on a faster chip, and (of course) the camera is improved yet again. If you’re not into the more subtle technological innovations, maybe you’ll be excited about the new rose gold option they’re offering. And, for the first time ever, Apple is offering a payment service: for $32 a month, you can get a new iPhone each year on any mobile service you want. So, if you have $384 to throw away each year because you just have to have a device that’ll become old news a week after you get it, go for it!

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon did the “Single Ladies” dance at the U.S. Open. After being caught on the big screen at the US Open, the dynamic duo stood up and did a brief, impromptu rendition of the famous dance. Nothing I write can express the glory of this moment.

Stephen Colbert made his late-night debut. After nine years with a daytime comedy talk show, Colbert has succeeded David Letterman as the second-ever host of The Late Show. The ratings on his first night as host topped all the other late shows, but just one day after, Jimmy Fallon reclaimed the top spot. His guests included George Clooney and Jeb Bush.
