One of the headliners for the Grand Kerfuffle, iLoveMakonnen is quite the interesting character. Generally unknown until Drake remixed his song “Club Goin’ Up on a Tuesday” iLoveMakonnen is quickly taking over the industry with his unique vocal style and arrogant swagger.
While iLoveMakonnen is now headlining sold out shows, and our very own Grand Kerfuffle, here are 5 things about the Atlanta based rapper that may surprise you:
1. Mokonnen’s grandmother was an opera singer, and it shows in his vocal style. Just listen to the last minute of his collab with Carnage on the song “I like Tuh.” Not sure if his grandmother would be proud of his performance here, but it sure is hilarious. Check it out below:
2. For a short time after 2009, Makonnen was enrolled in cosmetology school. Maybe that’s the secret behind this beautiful face:
3. It only took two days for Drake to release his remix of Makonnen’s song “Tuesday” after receiving the beat from Makonnen’s producer. Makonnen had no idea Drake had any intention of actually releasing the track, let alone two days afterwards. Check out the now ubiquitous club anthem below:
4. Makonnen was an avid blogger, interviewing the likes of Lil B and Soulja Boy Tell’em on his blog before their rise to fame.
5. Lastly, and arguably most importantly, Makonnen don’t sell molly no more. That’s right, folks. The “Tuesday” singer has said goodbye to the underground drug trade. Don’t believe him? Listen to his song, “I Don’t Sell Molly No More” below. I don’t know about you, but he’s got me convinced.
