I wish I had known that I knew absolutely nothing. I wish I had known that I would switch—and contemplate switching—majors for the entirety of my first two years at the U, and that my emphasis would change and change again. I wish I had known that the path or “true self” we all hope to discover in our college years is not static or concrete. On the contrary, it is fluid, unstable and ever-changing.
Most importantly, I wish I had known that this uncertainty I felt (and feel) is okay. It is okay to not know what you are interested in, or what ‘college’ you belong to or what you will do after graduation.

I recommend embracing your ignorance and naivety. Enroll in gen-ed courses on subjects you know nothing about. Take the music or theater class your high school self never would have taken. Take a class that falls outside your planned career path, which I guarantee will change in some way or another. Consider enrollment at the U a fresh start, a boundless opportunity to study and engage in things you have been previously unfamiliar with. Jump in feet first and be unabashed and unapologetic in your decision making, no matter how reckless or deviant it might seem.
Oh, and take History of Rock N’ Roll.
