How to Have a Carrie Bradshaw Summer in Salt Lake City

Dressing like Carrie Bradshaw doesn’t mean throwing your whole fashion identity away just to look like a fictional character. It means finding inspiration from others and incorporating pieces in your closet and making it all your own.

Sex and The City” has recently been discovered by many due to the show being added to Netflix back in April. Here is my fashion guide, lifestyle and tips on how to tap into our favorite messy it-girl, Carrie Bradshaw this summer.

“Swear on Chanel”

If you are a fan of the show, you may know that Miss Carrie loves her designer brands such as Chanel, Manolo Blahnik, Dior and many more. Although, many of us are college students who don’t necessarily have the budget to buy such designers. Despite being on a budget, you can still find many ways to shine your inner Carrie and find pieces similar to hers to wear throughout the summer. You just have to look in the right places.

Trust me, I love me a clean girl aesthetic. But when it comes to Carrie, she is never one to stay inside the box when it comes to fashion. Even with trends in “Sex and The City,” Carrie always found ways to play with her style with textures, patterns, colors, designs and silhouettes.

During summertime in the show, Carrie is seen wearing lots of florals. Whether that be her shirts or skirt, it was an essential piece for her summer fashion. Florals can be intimidating but if worn and styled the right way, anyone can truly pull off the look. Wearing florals gives a simple outfit more color and pop and lets your feminine side shine a lot more. A great way to look for floral patterns is to thrift. Carrie has expensive taste but that never stopped her from thrifting with her girlfriends. Whether you prefer to thrift in stores or online stores like Depop or Poshmark, you will find many unique but pretty pieces, like this orange floral tube top.

Another essential to dressing like Carrie Bradshaw is finding vintage Betsey Johnson. Vintage Betsey Johnson is a personal favorite brand of mine. Her clothes are so unique, girly and eccentric, especially when finding them through second-hand shopping. In season 6, episode 10, Carrie is seen wearing a blue and white striped dress to a party. Betsey Johnson dresses are perfect for the summertime because many of them are colorful and full of fun patterns. Slip dresses like this Betsey Johnson dress would be perfect for a brunch date with your besties. A floral strapless dress for a date night in the city would be beautiful on anyone.

Shoes, shoes and more shoes! Carrie loves her shoes, more specifically high heels. As much as I wish I could afford some Manolo Blahnik’s, that’s just not in my budget. There are some shoes that are great in quality and style that I personally find more affordable. The Coach Margot sandal is a perfect summer shoe that elevates any simple or more put-together outfit. It is cute and comfortable and doesn’t break the bank. Steve Madden is another cute and affordable shoe brand. These Josefina sandals would help create a stunning Carrie outfit.

Dressing like Carrie Bradshaw doesn’t mean throwing your whole fashion identity away just to look like a fictional character. It means finding inspiration from others, incorporating pieces in your closet and making it all your own. It is always fun to step out of the box every now and then to discover new styles or pieces you never thought of trying. That is the fun in fashion!

Yes to Vogue, Cosmopolitans and Pop Summer!

If you want to incorporate a few things from Carrie’s lifestyle here in Salt Lake City there are a few places that scream Carrie. The Red Door is a bar that plays live music on the weekends and has the perfect Cosmopolitan — Carrie’s signature drink. A night out at The Red Door with friends or a date is a perfect night out in the city with affordable but tasty drinks. Cafe on 1st captivates the aesthetic and vibes you might find at a cafe in New York City. I think Carrie would enjoy doing some of her work here or having brunch with the girls.

Of course when it comes to reading, we all know that Carrie loves Vogue magazines. Head to a bookstore near you and pick up this month’s Vogue magazine. It will feed you with many fashion tips and inspiration for new trends and ideas for the seasons coming ahead.

Speaking of bookstores, I feel like Carrie would shop at local bookstores and one that comes to mind is Central Book Exchange located in Sugarhouse. Central Book Exchange is such a comfort store and it has everything you would need such as journals, pens, magazines and, of course, books.

Songs that I think Carrie would listen to throughout the summer are “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl” or “Naked in Manhattan” by Chappell Roan. More songs that I would add to my playlist are “Like a Prayer” or “Vogue” by Madonna. And of course, “the boy is mine” by Ariana Grande.

There are many ways to make a Carrie Bradshaw summer into your own, this is just my personal guide on how to have the best one.
