In June of this year, Charli XCX and Lorde worked out their differences on the remix, “Girl, so confusing featuring lorde.” This leads to the question being asked: Who else do we want to see collaborate to squash rumors and rivalries?
The Birth of “Working It Out on the Remix”
Although they have seemingly different styles, Charli XCX and Lorde were compared throughout their music careers.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Charli talked about her feelings towards Lorde saying, “You piece all this stuff together in your brain, like: ‘She was into my music. She had big hair; I had big hair. She wore black lipstick; I once wore black lipstick.’ You create these parallels and think, ‘Well that could have been me.’”
Thankfully all rumors of beef between the two have been laid to rest now.
These Girls, So Confusing
In another universe, Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter are friends, but in this one (for now), we can’t ignore the showdown that occurred between these two in 2021. Even Carpenter said herself, “If I met you in another life, maybe then we could pretend, there’s no gravity in the words we write,” in her single, “Skin.”
I believe eventually they will squash the beef and collaborate but I’m not holding my breath. Not only did they both have the same boyfriend, but also the same idol (Yes, I’m talking about Taylor Swift).
Will Swift Take a Chance?
It’s no secret that Olivia Rodrigo was and still very well could be the biggest Swiftie. She constantly praised Swift and even called her “the greatest of all time.” The praise came to a halt in 2021 though, when Swift was granted song credits for Rodrigo’s songs “deja vu” and “1 step forward, 3 steps back.” The songs were compared to Swift’s, “Cruel Summer” and “New Year’s Day.” It is unclear who told who to give Swift and her producer, Jack Antonoff, songwriting credits.
It’s sad to think of a time when Rodrigo and Swift were photographed together and Swift commented on Rodrigo’s posts calling her, “my baby.”
For these two, I’m not sure I see a collaboration anytime soon; Rodrigo is still in the early stages of her career and I’m sure her team is whispering in her ear to keep the Swift talk to a minimum.
Swift and Eilish
The next duo I want to see break the internet are Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. A large amount of the contention stemmed from their fanbase’s competitiveness and wanting their artist’s album to be on the charts. In the weeks following Swift’s album drop of “The Tortured Poets Department,” she dropped several album variants which led Ellish’s fans to believe she was trying to block Ellish’s album.
In 2014, Swift gave an acceptance speech for Billboard’s “Woman of the Year award” and said that we need to take care of the future Woman of the Year who is sitting in a choir right now; Ellish later gave a nod to Swift in her acceptance speech in 2019 declaring, “I was eleven at the time, I was in a choir, and I was learning how to play the piano, and you took care of me, so thank you.” I’m not sure there is as much animosity between the pair as fans speculate.
Lastly, I want to see Donald Trump and Joe Biden hop on a remix together, and maybe they can finally go golfing together (Joke, but not really though).
Charli XCX and Lorde have done something truly special, and I can only hope that these other artists will follow in their footsteps.
