The 2024 Venice Film Festival has wrapped up, and it’s not just the films making headlines. The festival, which ran from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7, exhibited a range of films, from “The Room Next Door” to “The Brutalist.” However it was the stars’ fashion that became the center of attention, with their jaw-dropping outfit choices. Whether it was Loewe ensembles or Chanel gowns, the celebrity looks were dazzling and left a lasting impression.
Taylor Russell Showcases Old and New
Taylor Russell, one of Hollywood’s newest “it girls,” was selected to serve on the 2024 Venice Film Festival jury. This was Russell’s second year attending the festival, and her return was highly anticipated after her appearance last year for her film “Bones and All“ alongside Timothée Chalamet and Luca Guadagnino.
Russell stunned viewers with her 2023 carpet looks and did it again this year. The actress arrived in an archival John Galliano spring 1995 skirt suit on day one. The classy look was tied together with simple jewelry and sheer black flats.
The John Galliano look was one of many archival outfits that Russell had prepared. Later that day, she arrived in the vintage Chanel spring 1993 couture collection for the “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” premiere. Russell was beside various names such as Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton on the premiere carpet.
Throughout the week, Russell stayed loyal to her connection with Loewe. The star has worn Loewe at various events including the 2024 Met Gala, which had the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” At the Maria premiere she wore a custom all-black Loewe ensemble. The breathtaking look made a staggering impact on the carpet and left views in awe.
“Joker: Folie à Deux”
The “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” premiere was one of the most talked about at the festival. That is, alongside “Joker: Folie à Deux.” The movie premiered on Sept. 4 and received a 10.5-minute standing ovation. Before the screening, the movie stars stepped onto the carpet in outstanding suits and gowns.
Lady Gaga did not hold back on the carpet and delivered some of her best looks to date. The actress and singer arrived at the premiere wearing a black Christan Dior gown accessorized with Tiffany and Co. jewelry and a Phillip Treacy headpiece. The elegant combination turned heads as Gaga made her way down the carpet.
Yet, did director Todd Phillips and actor Joaquin Phoenix appear dull next to Gaga? The pair appeared on the carpet in plain black and grey suits — simple looks compared to Gaga’s magnificent gown and headpiece. Recently, men have been seen on red carpets wearing bolder outfits. Examples include Harry Styles with a pink boa and yellow plaid jacket at the 63rd Grammy Awards and Ryan Gosling in a bright teal suit at the “Barbie” premiere in London. Although, it appears the boldness did not transfer to Phillips’ and Phoenix’s looks this year.
A Sneak Peek Into Awards Season
The 2024 Venice Film Festival was a success in both the cinematic and fashion worlds. The films were part of a diverse array of stories and visuals. With standing ovations lasting for over ten minutes, the hard work put into the projects certainly paid off. There was no better way to celebrate the hard work than dressing up and walking down the carpet in picture-perfect looks. The festival was a great sneak peek into the cinema and the style we will see in this upcoming awards season.
