As fans all across Utah gear up for the most highly anticipated football game of the year between Holy War rivals Utah and BYU, both sides want to remind fans to keep the competitive spirit kind and respectful.
As part of a program to foster healthy competition, the University of Utah’s Prosperity U and Interfaith Initiative outlined a series of events leading up to the game on Nov. 9.
Activities kicked off last week, with Friday Night Hype at the Impact and Prosperity Epicenter. Displays from the Arm Wrestling Club and the Skateboarding Club headlined the event, with free street tacos and games for attendees. DJ Estrada brought the music, making for an exciting night of fun between fans.
Rivalry Week continues on Monday, Nov. 4 with Prosperity U and ASUU’s Breaking Into Rivalry Week. The event will take place at Library Square at noon, where fans can expect to see a series of breakdancing performances.
On Wednesday, the Epicenter will put on their Rivalry Week concert series. From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Utah and BYU fans can come together in the Epicenter Forum to support a lineup of talented local singer-songwriters from both the Salt Lake and Provo areas. Admission is free, and hot chocolate and apple cider will also be served for attendees.
Thursday night, three teams from the U and three teams from BYU will compete in the Rivalry Week PowderPuff football tournament at McCarthey field. Starting at 7:30 p.m., fans can come support their respective sides and enjoy a night of friendly competition.
Friday, Nov. 8 brings a doubleheader of events, beginning at 4:30 p.m. with a joint service project at the Epicenter. Roughly 300 students from both Utah and BYU can come together to assemble kits for refugees, making for an interactive activity to help give back to the community.
Rivalry Week events are capped off with another Friday Night Hype, with the Union Programming Council’s and ASUU’s Utah v. BYU Tailgate. Held from 7:00-10:00 p.m. in the Union Ballroom, the tailgate boasts free food, yard games, a photo booth, free bowling and opportunities to win prizes.
With a whole host of Rivalry Week events to partake in, fans from both sides have a number of opportunities to interact and showcase healthy competition, all while enjoying fun activities with friends. More information about the events can be found on belong.utah.edu.
