‘Tis the season of wiping ice off windshields and slipping on the icy staircases on campus. While winter and the cold weather may have flaws, it is time to look past the bad and explore all there is to do this winter in Salt Lake City with these exciting indoor and outdoor activities with friends and family.
Skate and Sip Downtown
It is time to lace up the ice skates and elegantly spin and spiral — or slip and fall — on the Gallivan Center Ice Rink. Nestled in downtown SLC, the rink is a vibrant setting that glows with decorative lights and colors as visitors skate with friends and family. With workers on the ice at all times, there is no need to be a professional — the workers are happy to help. The rink opens on Nov. 20, 2024, and will close in early March.
After a fun-filled time ice skating at the Gallivan Center, treat yourself to a creamy cup of hot cocoa from Hatch Family Chocolates. The delightfully rich beverage and various other chocolatey treats offered at the shop are the perfect way to warm up. Located just minutes from the ice rink, skaters will surely find the perfect sweet to end the day.
A Picture Perfect Agenda
Put on your most stylish winter outfit, gather your family, friends or partner and head up the canyon to see the stunning snow and take pictures to capture the moment. Utah is home to “the greatest snow on earth” that blankets the canyons. Not sure which canyon to visit? Check out Big or Little Cottonwood Canyon.
After the canyon drive and photoshoot, head home for a cozy winter night. The night offers endless activities: watch a holiday film, bake a sweet treat, create a gingerbread house, paint martini glasses or decorate sugar cookies. But before diving into these fun activities, put on your warm pajamas.
Sledding and Seasonal Scents
Are you ready to conquer the snow? Grab a sled and head to Sugarhouse Park. The park is home to a range of hills, big and small, perfect for solo or group sledding. Don’t forget to bundle up to make the experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
Wind down after a long day of playing in the snow with a good book, comfy sweats and a homemade candle from a candle-making shop in SLC. From Paddywax Candle Bar to The Wick Lab, there are many options to attend a workshop and create a custom candle. The workshops are typically one hour long and provide all necessary candle-making supplies.
An Evening of Sports
Whether you’re a sports fan or not, attending a Utah Jazz basketball game is the perfect way to spend the night. The atmosphere is vibrant and lively. The Delta Center arena offers a variety of amenities, including several restaurants, an audio sensory room, a jersey-making station and merchandise shops. While enjoying the engaging game, fans can also interact during game timeouts and breaks. The environment is perfect for all ages.
The arena is also home to the new Utah Hockey Club, Utah’s National Hockey League team. Like the Utah Jazz games, the games are thrilling, with spectators cheering and enjoying themselves.
Salt Lake City offers an array of fun and exciting activities that keep residents and visitors entertained throughout the entire winter season.
