Part of the beauty of the holiday season comes from all the comforting and delicious baked goods to be indulged in, and Salt Lake City has plenty of bakeries and patisseries to offer.
Here are some of the best places to find holiday treats in Salt Lake City.
Passion Flour Patisserie – 165 E. 900 S., Salt Lake City, UT 84111
This French-inspired patisserie specializes in serving authentic-tasting French desserts filled with vegan ingredients. They serve the classic croissants and macrons as well as a hot cocoa cheesecake in honor of the season.
They also run a special order of the traditional French dessert bûche de Noël. This is a sponge cake filled with some sort of flavored buttercream and rolled up and decorated to look like a yule log. This is meant to memorialize the tradition of burning a yule log at christmas time.
Passion Flour Patisserie offers four different flavors of the bûche de Noël: German Chocolate, Black Forrest, Pistachio and Tiramisu.
Vosen’s Bread Paradise – 328 W. 200 S., Salt Lake City, UT 84101
When Marcus Vosen originally opened Vosen’s Bread Paradise, he brought with him his favorite Dutch recipes. Most of the recipes they use today are still his. During the holiday season they offer a marzipan christollen, a traditional Dutch/German sweet bread.
They also offer a large selection of imported goods, which are perfect for filling your bunter teller — or plate of sweet treats meant to be enjoyed on Christmas eve.
Gourmandise – 250 S. 300 E., Salt Lake City, UT 84111
Another popular French-inspired patisserie is Gourmandise. This cafe and restaurant offers a wide variety of treats to choose from, from cakes and croissants to cookies and tarts, all inspired by the flavors of the season. The most notable ones they offer during the holiday season are a winter wonderland cake, eggnog cheesecake and an eggnog bread pudding.
They also offer boxes of delicious holiday treats for order, including a selection of Christmas cookies and cakes and a delicious stollen and bûche de Noël.
RubySnap Fresh Cookies – 770 S. 300 W., Salt Lake City, UT 84101
Christmas cookies are a must during the holiday season and RubySnap Fresh Cookies offers a few specialty ones. The noelle, a sweet potato maple cookie with milk chocolate and pecans, the scarlett, a red velvet cookie with cream cheese frosting and the dottie, a chocolate sour cream cookie with peppermint buttercream frosting. These cookies are so rich and decadent, you won’t want to miss out on them while they’re here.
Mrs. Backer’s Pastry Shop – 434 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84111
This pink palace is so perfectly decorated and preserved, it’ll make you feel like you just walked into a Hallmark movie (no really, it was featured in the Hallmark movie, “I’m Not Ready for Christmas”).
A family-owned bakery, they offer all the traditional Christmas treats. An array of cookies and cupcakes decorated like stockings and Christmas trees, festive gingerbread men and spritz cookies decorated like wreaths. They also offer a sweet stollen and rum cake baked in-house.
Hatch Family Chocolates – 376 E. Eighth Avenue, Salt Lake City, UT 84103
Nestled in the Avenues, Hatch Family Chocolates is another family owned business that is sharing their traditions. The owners started this business with family recipes that are still used today.
