The 2025 ASUU Primary Election results are in, and the Singh, ABC and Rose tickets are on their way to the general election.
The Singh ticket led, earning 1,250 of the 3,472 total votes cast. They were followed by the ABC ticket, with 1,147 votes, and the Rose ticket, with 1,124. Their wins eliminate the Poll and Whicker tickets from the race.
The three presidential candidates from the winning tickets, Sunny Singh, Kefa Abakuki and Alex Rose, will debate for a second time this Thursday in the Union Ballroom. The debate is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and students will have the chance to ask candidates questions.
Winning Platforms
The Singh ticket has run on a platform advocating for things like composting on campus and a ski shuttle to take students to Little Cottonwood Canyon. The ticket also pushed for more transparent crime data and equal funding across colleges during a debate moderated by The Daily Utah Chronicle earlier this month.
“The humanities college keeps losing funding while the business school is overfunded,” said Elle Williams, the ticket’s candidate for vice president of student relations, at that debate. “We need to ensure every student and college gets the support they need.”
Meanwhile, the ABC ticket has run on the slogan “Actions Build Community.” This ticket has emphasized transparency and said they’d host regular town halls if elected. During the primary debate, Abakuki said he’d also work to close gaps left by H.B. 261 and the closing of several resource centers on campus.
“We know which communities are most affected by these cuts, and we need to empower student organizations to help restore these resources,” he said.
The Rose ticket has proposed updating the U’s mobile app and expanding SafeRide hours in their campaign. Auzja Morse, the ticket’s vice president of student relations candidate, suggested becoming more involved in state politics.
“One thing that is so important to us as leaders at ASSU is getting involved in state legislation,” Morse said. “We are the leaders of the future, we must know what’s going on, so it’s crucial for us to be a part of those meetings.”
Other General Election Candidates
The general election is not just for executive tickets. Seats in the ASUU Senate and Assembly and the attorney general’s office are also open. The Senate and Assembly consist of student representatives from each college. The attorney general is responsible for assuring ASUU’s adherence to the Redbook.
Students that already voted in the primary election will have to vote again in the general election for their votes to be counted. Students can vote through ASUU’s website.
Voting for the general election is open until Feb. 28.
