The new year has arrived and the entertainment industry is ready to go. 2025 promises a wide range of new television shows and movies that are sure to charm audiences. From dramas to action films, here are just a few series and movies to be on the lookout for this year.
The Return of Many Beloved Series
2025 is gearing up to be a stellar year for television series. With FX’s hit show “The Bear” returning for its fourth season and the acclaimed series “The White Lotus” releasing its third season, binge-watching parties are guaranteed to be exciting.
Nearly a decade after its start, the “Stranger Things” franchise is wrapping up with its release of “Stranger Things 5.” While there is no specific release date, the production wrapped towards the end of 2024.
“This season — it’s like season one on steroids,” said creator Matt Duffer to The Guardian. Many fans have remained loyal to the show over the years and are both excited and nervous to see how the series will conclude.
Another series concluding this year is “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” Based on the three-part book series by Jenny Han, the television adaptation’s third season is expected to release this summer. After being left on a cliffhanger, viewers of the show are anxious to see if Belly will finally choose Conrad or Jeremiah and if her choice aligns with the books.
Get ready for the second season of the hit series “Wednesday.” The show, currently the most-watched series on Netflix, returns this year for another spooky season. Star Jenna Ortega shared in her Actors on Actors interview with Elle Fanning that she will take on a producer role for the second season.
“It was a natural progression,” Ortega said. “I tried to have as many conversations as possible with the writers.”
Classic Tales and Superhero Adventures
For those looking to enjoy cinema at the local theater, the movies set to release in 2025 are sure to satisfy. Familiar faces like Timothée Chalamet will return to the big screen for the sports drama film “Marty Supreme” on Christmas Day. Classic Paddington Bear will also be back in “Paddington in Peru,” which releases in the U.S. on Feb. 14.
However, part two of the musical “Wicked,” starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, has many film enthusiasts excited. Part one received a Popcornmeter score of 95%, delighting audiences and making various products at stores themed green and pink. So, gear up because “Wicked: For Good” is set to release on Nov. 21, 2025.
The fantasy fun continues beyond “Wicked: For Good.” The live-action “Snow White” is set to be released on March 21, 2025. Starring Rachel Zegler from “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” the film takes viewers back to the world of the 1937 “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
That said, some superhero action will be on top of the fantasy this year. James Gunn’s “Superman” is scheduled to release on July 11, 2025. The thrilling film will follow the superhero, Clark Kent, as he looks back on his human heritage.
The action continues with the release of “Captain America: Brave New World” on Feb. 14, 2025. With a budget of over $300 million, many hope that the movie, along with others released this year, will meet their expectations; only time will tell.
