UTEP Assistant Joins Men’s Basketball Staff

The search for a men's basketball assistant coach to replace top assistant Dick Hunsaker is over. Silvey Dominguez, an assistant coach for the 10-22 Texas-El Paso Miners, was named to the position by Utah coach Rick Majerus last week. "This is a great opportunity for me, and one I felt I couldn't afford to pass up," Dominguez said.

Five-Year-Old Girl Abducted in So. Cal

STANTON, Calif.?Police on Tuesday searched for a 5-year-old girl who was abducted kicking and screaming outside her apartment by a man who drove up and asked for help finding his dog. The girl's mother, Erin Runnion, wept as she pleaded for the return of her daughter, Samantha, who was snatched Monday evening from a road inside the apartment complex 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

Woman, Children Killed in Shooting

HUDSON OAKS, Texas?A woman and her three children were killed and her estranged husband was wounded Tuesday in a shooting at their upscale home in a small town near Fort Worth. Police Chief Ray Riley wouldn't say whether the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, or if the wounded man was a suspect.

Petitioners Want Signatures OK’d

SALT LAKE CITY?Organizers of a petition drive to hike taxes on radioactive waste disposal asked the Utah Supreme Court to throw out a portion of the statute that invalidated more than 91,000 signatures for the November ballot initiative. Six initiative sponsors and activists filed a petition of extraordinary writ with the state Supreme Court on Tuesday.

ASUU Finance Director Resigns

The Associated Students of the University of Utah's Executive Cabinet is one member short following the resignation of its finance director. Ryan Wilson was in his second year as director of the Finance Board before stepping down earlier this month. "It was the hardest decision I ever had to make, and I regret it, but it was time for me to move on," Wilson said.

WASHINGTON?Pentagon leaks of military secrets to news organizations are hurting the war on terrorism and endangering American lives, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told senior officials. In an internal memo, Rumsfeld lamented a "damaging lack of professionalism we continue to see on a daily basis," referring to a willingness of some defense officials to provide classified information to reporters.
