Israelis Abandon Arafat Compound

RAMALLAH, West Bank?Six wanted Palestinians were escorted out of Yasser Arafat's battered offices Wednesday night and whisked away in a convoy of U.S. and British armored cars, officially ending Arafat's five months of confinement by Israel. Led by three Israeli security jeeps, the vehicles started toward a jail in Jericho, a Palestinian-controlled town in the West Bank, about 22 miles away.

Primary Children’s Doctors Perform Experimental Artificial Rib Surgery

U surgeons implanted a titanium "rib" that helps correct chest-wall deformities in children with certain spinal deformities for the first time in Utah on Wednesday. The orthopedic surgeons are also teaching the new surgery to doctors from around the country.

U Care Pavillion Makes Progress

As the last pieces of steel are put into place, the Eccles Critical Care Pavilion at University Hospital is nearing its final shape. The structure is on schedule to be enclosed by late fall and completed in March 2003, according to Dan Lundergran, associate administrator for U Hospital.

Presenter’s Office Releases Results Of Student Survey

Only 38 percent of U students have heard of the Presenter's Office, the cultural arts organ of student government, according to a recently released survey. Jeppson Research, an outside polling firm, recently conducted a survey for the Presenter's Office of the Associated Students of the University of Utah, asking students what kind of events they want to see on campus, when the events should be held and how much students are willing to pay for them.

U Eliminates Parking Along Business Loop

Since January, U student Alice Greenfield has enjoyed curbside parking in the U business loop. "It has been so convenient," Greenfield said. "Four of my five classes are just a one-minute walk away from these parking spots." But starting Monday morning, the 110 parking slots created to help relieve the Olympic parking crunch will be removed and two-way traffic will resume in the business loop.

Complaint Against TA Won’t Be Heard Until Semester End

A student-filed formal complaint against a teaching assistant will not go before the Ethnic Studies academic appeals committee until after the end of the semester. Music major William Brooke filed a formal complaint against his teaching assistant Amadou Niang in mid-April for what Brooke said were violations of university policy.

Ballet West Plans New $13M Facility

SALT LAKE CITY?Ballet West has announced plans for a $13 million building in Sugar House that will have facilities for its dancers, education program, administrators and production. The Capitol Theatre will remain the company's main performance venue, but the new facility will expand rehearsal space, replacing several leased buildings scattered throughout the city.
