U Hospital Treats Student’s Olympic Hacking Cough

The crowds have left, the signs are coming down and 17 days of glory are now just a memory. Many Utah agencies?the U included?talk about "Olympic legacies"?such as the cauldron at Rice-Eccles Stadium. For one U student, the Olympic legacy is a little bit more grim.

Business School Gets Olympic Applicants

During the Olympic Break, most of campus remained deserted, but the School of Business kept busy trying to find jobs for Olympians. "We had quite a bit of activity throughout the entire break," said Jack Brittain, dean of the school. The business school hosted the World Olympians Association, an Olympic alumni association which provided career help to Olympians in the Salt Lake Games.

Students Can Tailor Personal Info on Web Site

Students wanting to withhold some personal information from the U Web site while making other information public will soon be able to. Instead of allowing students to post their names and phone numbers while withholding their addresses, the system currently gives students a choice between posting all of their directory information or none of it.

On Feb. 27, Rep. Margaret Dayton, R-Orem, was at the Capitol by 7 a.m. At an early morning meeting, the House Judiciary Committee was scheduled to vote on a bill Dayton sponsored. Her bill, as it originally stated, prohibited "institutions of higher education from discriminating against, or granting preferential treatment to, any group on the basis of race, sex, religion, color, ethnicity or national origin in admissions policies and practices.

Theatre Association Pulls Support From Axson-Flynn

The world's largest stage theatre association has pulled its support of Christina Axson Flynn and her lawsuit against the U, citing misinformation provided by her lawyers. Actors' Equity Association publicized their support of Axson-Flynn on Thursday in a friend-of-the-court brief.

Accountants simply add revenues, subtract expenses, take out a little for taxes, and voila, the job is finished. See you at the pool. Closer to the truth is this joke, which would be funny if it weren't so accurate.

Letter to the Editor: Don’t Be Afraid of Open Debate

Editor: I was thoroughly impressed with Cris Brockway's Feb. 28 opinion article, "A Separation of Church and?Science?" If we intend to be an educated society, we MUST allow different views to be voiced. It's called "free speech." If creationists have enough facts and evidence to build a museum, then it should be built.
