Cleaners Discover Athlete Blood Bags

SALT LAKE CITY?House cleaners found used blood transfusion bags at a home where Austrian Nordic skiers stayed during the Winter Olympics. The bags were found Wednesday along with blood transfusion sets, glucose bottles and vitamins. All evidence was turned over to doping control officials for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee.

Banker Accused of Misleading Minor

SALT LAKE CITY?Former chief financial officer of Zions Bank, Dale Moroni Gibbons, paid doormen to allow his 15-year old daughter into two Salt Lake City nightclubs, where he bought her at least 10 vodka cocktails, prosecutors contend in a court document. The document filed Wednesday also alleges Gibbons watched on several occasions as the girl used the drugs ecstasy and ketamine and inhaled laughing gas.

NY Police Tortue Case Overturned

NEW YORK?A federal appeals court overturned the convictions of three white police officers in the Abner Louima torture case Thursday, finding insufficient evidence they obstructed justice. LOS ANGELES?The discovery of an unplugged metal detector forced the evacuation of five terminals at Los Angeles International Airport early Thursday and delayed more than 300 flights, authorities said. Polyclinic Successful During Olympics, Prepares for Paralympics

While business at University Hospital suffered during the Games, the Polyclinic kept busy treating athletes in the Olympic Village. The clinic, set up to serve Olympic athletes, officials, volunteers and staff, cared for nearly 1,800 patients during its 29-day run.

Lawmakers Push Bill to Eliminate U’s No-Gun Policy

With less than a week left in the legislative session, lawmakers are making a last minute push to pass a bill that would eliminate the U's no-gun policy. The bill does not single out the U, but includes many state agencies with rules restricting firearms. Today, the Senate Rules Committee will vote on the bill.

Golfers Begin Spring Season at Hawaii Invite

While Salt Lake City recovers from hosting a celebration of sport in snow and ice, the Utah golf team headed to warmer pastures to begin its spring season. The golfers placed 13th out of 20 teams at the John Burns Invitational on Feb. 22, held in Honolulu, Hawaii, with an overall score of 891.

Men’s Tennis Falls Against Top Teams

Not having played in the state since January, the U men's tennis team comes home with a .500 record at 5 5. The team played its last eight matches on the road and won three of them. The Utes beat Northern Arizona, St. Mary's College and New Mexico State. Northern Arizona and New Mexico State are teams in the U's region.
