You read it every week. A bike is cut from the rack. A parking pass disappears from an uncovered jeep. A backpack is lifted from a University Bookstore cubby, followed by a requisite jab about the price of textbooks. The vast majority of campus crime is property crime, and most is easily prevented.

Swimmers Begin Conference Schedule

Trying to get its program off the ground, the U swimming team will begin the brunt of its conference schedule, hosting New Mexico and Colorado State this weekend. With all the non conference meets out of the way, the Utes are looking to roll against conference foes.

BOSTON?Northeastern University Student Government Association president Erin Dayharsh feels that she is being nickled and dimed after receiving the dubious honor of being named the highest paid student leader in the country. Dayharsh was named the highest paid student leader in the fall 2001 issue of Student Leader Magazine.

Upon discovering the "hole" in AOL's programming, Conover said he tried contacting AOL administration, but when it failed, he sent information regarding the "hole" and a program he had designed to demonstrate this hole, to a security emailing list.

Utah State U. starts program to retain freshmen

Filing Deadline for Senate and Assembly Passes

Of the five parties competing for the student body presidency, only two filed a large number of candidates for General Assembly and Student Senate. The Impact and Elevation parties submitted 104 candidates between them for the Associated Students of the University of Utah Student Senate and General Assembly.

U Ranked as Largest Lobbying Spender

Last year, the U spent more money on lobbying than any other registered Utah lobbying group. Spending nearly three times more than any other state college or university, the U dished out $23,505 on lunches, sporting events and other event tickets. Utah State University, the second largest lobbyist in the higher education system, spent $8,000.

U’s Young Scientist Unraveling Mystery Behind Heart Disease

Although 16 million Americans have diabetes and 75 percent of them die from heart disease or stroke, little is known about how diabetes affects the heart. Researchers at the U hope to change that soon. The School of Medicine received a $2.5 million grant from the National Institute of Health last October to take a lead role in solving that puzzle.

BOSTON?The airline passenger accused of trying to ignite explosives in his shoes was indicted Wednesday on charges of being an al Qaeda-trained terrorist whose goal was to blow up the plane and kill the nearly 200 people aboard. Reid, a 28-year-old British citizen and convert to Islam, could get five life sentences if convicted.
