Olympic Flame Trip to Athens Sparks Excitement in Machen

Slouching sideways in a large armchair next to the lit fireplace, U President Bernie Machen announced he now has the Olympic spirit, just in time for the holidays. After spending hundreds of hours in preparations for the Games during his four years at the U, Machen received a little payback earlier this week.

Business School Endowments Hit by Slow Economy

With the economic downturn, business students may worry about finding jobs?but many of them will be affected well before they enter the workforce. Administrators are scrambling to come up with money for scholarships and programs. "I'm hoping that the level of what we're able to award won't go down a huge amount," said Michelle Hill, School of Business corporate and foundation giving director.

During Finals Week, Free ASUU Child Care

The Associated Students of the University of Utah hope to care for 50 children a day during finals week. The ASUU Child Care Center, located in the Emery Building on Presidents Circle, is offering free child care during finals week for parents and children who register in time.

Landowner Wants To Sell Artifacts

SALT LAKE CITY?A Utah landowner wants to sell off the artifacts in an ancient Anasazi ruin, infuriating some archaeologists who say there's no way to put a price on the relics. For $2,500 per day, souvenir hunters and aspiring archaeologists can spend the day digging at 1,000-year-old Montezuma Village in San Juan County, keeping whatever they find.

Man Opens Fire in Factory, Kills Self

GOSHEN, Ind.?A man opened fire Thursday at the simulated-wood factory where he worked, killing a co-worker and wounding several others before committing suicide, authorities said. State Police officials said one person was slain inside Nu Wood Decorative Millwork factory.
