U Diabetes Center Holding Fun Run

The Utah Diabetes Center 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, March 23 will kick off a week long celebration to introduce the community to its new facility for diabetes patient care, education and research. The center, part of U Hospitals and Clinics, will also host an open house, tours and a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 27 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.

Avalanche Kills 2 at Brighton Resort

SALT LAKE CITY?An avalanche fell in the backcountry near a Utah ski resort Saturday afternoon, killing two people. The two buried in the avalanche, ages 18 and 19, were in a party of about a dozen snowboarders, officials said. The victims left a chair lift at Brighton Ski Resort to traverse 10,321-foot Pioneer Ridge.

Train Derailment Causes Toxic Spill

ATLANTA?Eight cars of a 79-car train derailed Saturday and leaked about 600 gallons of a hazardous chemical before it was contained, officials said. Fire officials evacuated about 100 people from residential streets near the derailment, train company spokesman Craig Camuso said.
