Skiers Finish Third at Championships

It wasn't the 11th national championship the Utah ski team sought, but it was an improvement. "We are trying to be optimistic, but there is a definite disappointment in the end result," said ski coach Kevin Sweeney. Utah finished in third place at the NCAA Championships, held March 6 through 9 in Anchorage, Alaska.

The U's theatre department is once again under fire, following a recent lawsuit filed against professors who allegedly forced sophomore Natalie Wallace to engage in "unruly conduct with a goat" for her theatre midterm. The suit, filed Wednesday in the Salt Lake 14th District Court, accuses three professors within the theatre program of forcing Wallace to comply to questionable behavior with the animal for an assigned scene.

ESS Department Adds “NCAA Bracketology” Course

The U's Department of Exercise and Sport Science increased by one its available courses when it announced on Monday that "NCAA Bracketology" would be available to all students. The new addition to the world of academia came about as a result of concern from within the department that, with the likes of "Trail Hiking," "Tae Kwon Do," and "Intermediate Bowling," permeating its course roster, students within the program were not being challenged enough mentally.

WASHINGTON, Utah?A boy who brought explosives to his elementary school has been suspended for several days. On Thursday, the boy began showing off small bombs he fashioned from the shells of a .22-caliber bullet at recess. Washington County Sheriff Kirk Smith said Thursday the small explosive devices would be harmful if ignited because of the potential shrapnel.

Scaffolding Kill 3, Due to High Winds

CHICAGO?Scaffolding from the landmark John Hancock Center fell more than 40 stories onto a busy downtown street and crushed cars Saturday, killing three people and injuring at least seven. High winds may have caused a 25-foot section of scaffolding to fall from the 43rd floor, fire officials said.

SALT LAKE CITY?The 23 year-old man who pleaded guilty to charges of raping and stabbing a 13-year-old girl and then leaving her for dead near Jordanelle Reservoir, was sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison. Jonathan Fuentes had pleaded guilty to first-degree felony counts of attempted aggravated murder and child kidnapping, and to second degree felony sexual abuse of a child.
