Two former U skiers and one current member of the U team will don the red, white and blue to represent the United States in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Cross country stalwarts Torin Koos, Kristina Joder and Justin Wadsworth were named to represent the U.

Jacobson is Player of the Week

Sophomore swingman Nick Jacobson was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after his marksmanship from the 3-point arc landed the Utes two conference wins. The award was the Fargo, N.D., native's first in his second season with the Utes.

I write to express my support for President Bernie Machen's leadership in defense of the U's responsible policy regarding firearms on campus. As a faculty member here at the U, it is a great comfort to know that this university has a president who is willing to confront a hostile political environment in defense of the basic conditions that make higher learning possible for all students.

Snake river Open Was Tougher for Utah Track and Field

Over the weekend, the competition became much tougher in the Snake River Open for the U track and field team. More than 10 teams competed at the tournament, and the Utes did well against the competition, with one athlete breaking a school record. Assistant coach Brian Appell was happy about how the Utes performed.

A collective groan came from Greek Row this weekend after fraternity Kappa Sigma received 52 alcohol citations from the Salt Lake City Police Department. Of the citations, 40 were for consumption of alcohol by minors. The other 12 were for serving alcohol to minors.

In the wake of a weekend fraternity party that resulted in 52 alcohol-related citations, Kappa Sigma is under fire from U officials and the Greek Council. Though no other fraternities or sororities were involved in last Saturday's incident, the effect is a lingering one in the eyes of some of the neighbors who live next to the fraternity houses.
